Kitchen Remodeling: Reface your cabinets

Sometimes the thought of remodeling your kitchen can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. There are numerous things you can do to upgrade your kitchen, especially the cabinets.

My first recommendation to kitchen remodeling is “out with the old, and in with the new.” The cabinetry industry is always improving its hardware components such as hinges, drawer tracks, pull-out storage racks and just about everything else in cabinetry that you can think of. Sometimes these can be replaced individually without having to do a complete kitchen remodeling. Imagine not having your kitchen cupboard slam every time you close it—there are hinges out there that keep it from doing that.

There are always updates available for your cabinets, however some of them are only available with new cabinets. New kitchen (and bathroom!) cabinets above all else will keep up with new stuff and improve on any design flaws your kitchen has. Many people dream of remodeling their kitchens and installing brand new cabinetry, but sometimes it’s just not in the budget, even when it’s in dire need of a facelift. In this case, consider just refinishing the cabinets or refacing them.

Latex paint is the simplest solution for refinishing doors for two reasons: one, you don’t have to stripe your doors down to the bare wood; and two, with a latex paint you won’t have to top coat your doors.

Maybe you’re thinking that new paint just isn’t going to cut it. If that’s you, then just replacing the doors (not the entire cabinetry) might be your option. This provides a less expensive alternative and keeps the outside of your cabinets looking great. The least expensive way to accomplish this while still having a beautiful and stylish door is through textured malamine (a hot, new product that we have just introduced to the market). There are many colors to choose from and if you like the contemporary look than it is definitly for you.
